Projects with partners in the Middle East and Shanghai are on-going, and, in addition, we’re delighted to announce that preliminary talks have also started with a major US health & safety training provider.
The aim is to explore possible joint training/ consultancy ventures aimed at markets both in the UK and the USA.

    MANAGEMENT AND SAFETY TRAINING LTD

WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE DO IT

The aim of Management & Safety Training is simple: to offer high quality training to businesses of all sizes, and to do so at an affordable price. But we would say that, wouldn't we? So let's look at the facts, starting with management training.

Management training (MAP Assessment)

In the current economic climate it makes sense to develop the potential of your existing staff rather than take a financial risk, and waste time, by recruiting the wrong person.

MAP Assessment is a leading international system for evaluating staff potential. Unlike its competitors it is unique in that it provides the candidate with a quantitative report detailing both their strengths and weaknesses across twelve key areas. They are measured against some 90,000 real managers, i.e. against people who have already taken the MAP process, and so are given a real world measurement of their skills and weaknesses.

No other system provides users with such a detailed insight into their abilities. They get hard facts - not psychobabble and jargon.

Having undergone MAP Assessment the candidate may well feel the need for further training, either to remedy weaknesses identified by MAP or to build on their existing strengths. By virtue of having completed the MAP Assessment process the candidate (and the employer!) can ensure that the course selected really does meet their needs.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Currently MAP Assessment courses are eligible for Government training grants of up to £1,000 per company (subject to conditions). Please contact us for further information on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

MiRo psychometric profiling

Using the MiRo technique we can not only provide profiles for individuals but also for teams. This inexpensive technique can give managers and employers unique insights into team dynamics, and can help enormously in developing the effectiveness of a team.

Health & Safety training
Whether you like it or not the plain fact is that managers must understand health & safety principles if they are to stay on the right side of the law. And the penalties for neglecting this obligation have been increased since the introduction, in January 2009, of the Health & Safety (Offences) Act 2008. Most offences now attract a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine and two years' imprisonment - which should make you think!

We offer a range of approved health & safety courses accredited by HABC. Currently the courses are at Levels 1, 2 and 3 on the National Qualification Framework, i.e. designed for both the workforce and managers, but in due course we will also offer a Level 4 course aimed at senior managers and directors.

Fire safety training (including care homes and hotels)

Currently we offer two fire related courses, a half-day course in Fire Awareness, and a one-day course designed for Fire Wardens (also known as Fire Marshals).

The half-day course is ideal as part of a general induction programme for new starters, or as general refresher training in fire safety. The Fire Warden course is an excellent starting point for  those people who have been designated by their management to undertake the role of "competent person" as required by the 2005 Fire Safety Order, i.e. people who will assist management in providing and maintaining fire safety in the workplace.

For staff working in the care home sector (and, indeed, the hotel sector) we can provide a specially designed Fire Warden course which includes a specific module on the fire safety problems posed by residents/ guests who may be elderly, infirm, or disabled. This additional module has been written precisely for this purpose by the highly respected Fire Protection Association.

Questions you must ask

Many health & safety consultancies are now offering training programmes in addition to their normal consultancy, but the critical questions you should ask of them are:

1.    Are you a consultancy which has switched to training because consultancy work is becoming scarce as the recession tightens?

2.    Are your courses accredited by an Approved Awarding Body, or have you written them yourselves - and if so, are you actually qualified to write training courses?

3.    Are your trainers formally qualified as trainers, or are they really health & safety specialists without proven training skills?

Our answers

1.    We are first and foremost a training company - so we specialise in training. Consultancy can, and will, be undertaken if requested - especially in the area of fire risk assessments - but our approach is very different to that of mainstream consultancies.

We will NOT undertake consultancy "for you" but instead we will do it "with you". We will NOT do all the work and then just ask you to sign documents you have not prepared, may not have even read, and probably don't understand.

Instead we will expect you to get involved in the process from start to finish so that you not only understand the problems you face but you also understand the solutions suggested and, most importantly, you understand WHY they have been suggested.

Why do we take this approach? Simply because, in the event of an accident or incident requiring investigation by the authorities, it is YOU who will be answering the questions and justifying the decisions. We'll provide help, obviously, but at the end of the day YOU have ultimate legal responsibility for what happens in your organisation - not us. So YOU need to understand what has been done in YOUR name and why.

No doubt this approach will cost us business because we don't adopt the "comfort blanket" consultancy model adopted by so many of our competitors. So be it - we either do it properly or we don't do it at all.

2.    Our health & safety courses are approved by HABC, an Approved Awarding Body, which means that we have to comply with rigorous standards. Our full time teaching staff are qualified to Level 4 standard in learning & development, and also have experience of designing and developing specialist health & safety courses.

3.    All training, whether in management assessment or health & safety, is delivered by staff who have not only completed a range of professional courses within their chosen sector, but also have proven and vetted training skills. We have a strict policy that training has to be delivered by qualified trainers - and we will never go back on that policy.
